Principal’s Report
As Term 2 draws to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on what has been a productive, engaging, and encouraging few months at Montello. It’s been a term filled with learning, connection, and shared achievement—and I’m incredibly proud of the way our students, staff, and families have continued to embody our school values.
One of the significant highlights of the term was our External School Review. I’m pleased to share that the review went exceptionally well and highlighted many of the great things happening here at Montello. The review team recognised our strong culture of care, our focus on improving student outcomes—particularly in reading—and the way our staff work collaboratively to support student wellbeing and engagement.
This positive feedback is a testament to the dedication of our staff, the support of our families, and the efforts of our wonderful students. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the review process, whether through direct participation or through your everyday involvement in school life. A more detailed report from the review will be available in Term 3 and will be shared with the whole school community.
We also enjoyed fantastic success at the Burnie Eisteddfod, where Montello had many successful entries and we took home two shields, including an impressive three-peat victory in the Poetry Competition Shield—a remarkable achievement! Our students performed with confidence, creativity, and pride, and their efforts were clearly recognised by the judges. Congratulations to all involved!
This term also saw some wonderful entries in our Montello Brixhibition Lego competition. The creativity and imagination on display were outstanding. A special congratulations to Evelyn Edwards, who has been selected to represent our school at the Ulverstone Brixhibition event next term—well done, Evelyn!
We’d also like to commend all of our students who represented Montello at the Northwest Cross Country Carnival. Their sportsmanship, perseverance, and team spirit were a credit to our school.
Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended our parent-teacher interviews this term. Your partnership plays a vital role in supporting student learning and wellbeing. These conversations are so valuable in building strong home-school connections and ensuring we are working together to support each child to reach their full potential.
To our students—well done on your efforts throughout Term 1 and Term 2. We are proud of the way you’ve approached your learning and embraced challenges with persistence and positivity. Your school reports reflect the hard work and progress made so far this year, and we encourage you to keep aiming high as we move into the second half of 2025.
As we look ahead, we will continue to build on our strengths and focus on our improvement priorities. Next term, we’re excited to further develop our targeted literacy programs and continue fostering a strong sense of belonging for all students.
Thank you once again for your continued support and partnership. I wish all of our families a safe, restful, and enjoyable break—and we look forward to seeing everyone back for Term 3, refreshed and ready for another great term of learning.

Congratulations to all Montello Primary students who represented the school so well on May 27th at the Northwest Primary Schools Sports Association Inter-Primary Carnival in Ulverstone. We are all very proud of your efforts.
Inter-Primary Cross Country

On Tuesday 17th June, Saxen Beeton represented Montello Primary at the State All Schools Cross Country. Saxen travelled all the way to Symmons Plains for the event. It was a muddy, slippery and challenging course but Saxen improved his 2km time from the Inter-Primary School Event. Well done Saxen on your effort and commitment.

Book Week 2025 - 'Book an Adventure'

Kitchen News
Term 2 in the kitchen has been busy.
We started out with making good old pikelets. The students mixed, flipped and especially enjoyed eating them.
The grades 3 and 4 students cooked their pikelets on the BBQ in the school garden. Over the three weeks we found different ingredients to add to the mixture to make them extra yummy. The favourite was apple.
Mr Langford grew some beautiful broccoli in the garden, so I wanted to try and get every student to try some. We talked about how broccoli is a super food and all the health benefits you get from eating it and that you should eat it even if you don’t like it.
I decided to go with broccoli, bacon and cheese sauce pies. We used the pie makers, and everyone made a pie to either eat in cooking class or take home. They were delicious, and a great thing to eat on a cold day!
I’m proud to say I managed to get all but one student to eat some broccoli. Hopefully those who didn’t already will start eating it at home.
The Prep Bilbies and Prep/1 Possums have been making fruit skewers, it has been fantastic to see these students trying some new flavours.
We finished up the term with a treat of hot chocolate or Milo with marshmallows. As you can imagine these went down really well. While drinking them we had conversations about every day and occasional foods, which is a theme that runs through every cooking lesson.
Enjoy your holidays

Chaplain’s Chat
This week I found a site with some great family activities: frugal fun for boys and girls
The positive conversation starters caught my eye. The author Sarah says:
Do you ever find in your house that conversations don’t always head in a great direction? Do the kids end up only talking about video games, disagreeing over ridiculous things or discussing dumb things that other people do? And it might not just be the kids, do the adults in the house end up complaining about cost of living, the weather, etc, etc?
While life is not perfect & there are hard things that do need to be discussed there are also always good things and, we can choose which to focus on. "Gratitude brings balance to life!"
Sarah created 20 conversation cards to help kids focus conversations on good, seeing things to be thankful for in their current situation & to help us think about how we can help or encourage someone else.
These are a couple of the 20 cards which can be downloaded for free @ Conversation Cards from Frugal Fun where Sarah gives ideas of when & how to use the cards including repeating questions over a few days so kids can watch out for answers.
I know my family often enjoys discussing favourite memories of birthday parties, holidays etc.

Next Term, Inside Out 4 Kids will be running Emotional Literacy programs for a Grade 3/4 class & Grade 1/2 classes. If you want to find out more about the program content check out Inside Out 4 Kids on YouTube @ https://www.youtube.com/@insideout4kids902/videos
We are also privileged to be chosen to host the 1st Northwest school based Inside Out 4 Kids Sibworks program for students with a sibling with a disability. If you feel this program would be helpful for your child pleases contact the school office.
Our students performed well at the very first Tasmanian Jigsaw Puzzle Competition Schools Division where our team's placed 3rd & 4th completing an unseen 200-piece puzzle in less than an hour. More photos of the day were shared on the school Facebook page.
Next term we will start on our 500-piece competition puzzles so we can add our times to the Interschool Puzzle Club online leaderboard.
At our lunch time club students have continued to puzzle enthusiastically - last week we had 23 Gr3-6 students puzzling: lots of fun, teamwork, communication, problem solving, resilience, great for wellbeing and so much more! AND if you look carefully, you'll see Otto helping with a puzzle. Earlier in the term we excitedly unpacked our new puzzles, some are in the photos.

If you think I can help you and your child in some way, or you'd like to chat, please leave a message at the school office.
