Principal’s Report
As we continue to foster a nurturing and dynamic learning environment at Montello, I am excited to reflect on the incredible inspiration provided by the Olympic Games in Paris. The Olympics showcase the pinnacle of human achievement, where athletes from around the world come together to demonstrate exceptional skill, dedication, and fairness. This global event is not only a celebration of physical prowess but also a profound reminder of the values that unite us all.
The Olympic motto, "Citius, Altius, Fortius, Communiter" – "Faster, Higher, Stronger, Together" – embodies the spirit of striving for excellence and surpassing one's limits. This motto resonates deeply with the Montello and DECYP values of connection, respect, growth, courage, and responsibility. Just as athletes push their boundaries, our students and staff are encouraged to connect with one another, show respect for themselves and others, grow both academically and personally, face challenges with courage, and embrace their responsibilities with integrity. The Olympics illustrate that through these values, we can achieve greatness and inspire those around us.
It is also important to highlight the role of parents in supporting their children's involvement in afterschool sports. While participating in sports can sometimes be an investment, the benefits far outweigh the costs. Team sports foster important life skills such as teamwork, communication, and leadership, all while enhancing physical fitness and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Engaging in sports helps children develop discipline, resilience, and confidence, which are essential traits for success in all areas of life.
I encourage all parents to support and prioritise their children's involvement in afterschool sports. By doing so, you are not only investing in their physical health but also in their emotional and social development. Your support can make a significant difference in their overall wellbeing and future success.
Let us all draw inspiration from the Olympic Games and encourage our children to pursue their dreams, whether in sports or academics. By fostering an environment of support and encouragement, we help our children to strive for excellence and reach their full potential. Together, let us inspire and guide them towards a future filled with possibilities and achievements.

Early Childhood celebrate 100 Days of Learning
Last week our early childhood students celebrated their 100th day of school! Students dressed as if they were 100 years old!
100 Days of Learning
Book Week - August 19th- 23rd 2024
Book Week Dress Up Parade:
Tuesday 20th August 9:15am in the Hall
Students are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. It would be amazing to see as many students as possible participate in the parade, however, please do not feel pressured to spend lots of money on a new costume. Costumes from home can be just as amazing as brand-new costumes from online shops or stores. You can even use the theme ‘Reading is Magic’ as inspiration for your costume choice!
Scholastic Book Fair
Thursday 22nd August
Our school is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair during Book Week. The Book Fair will be run on Thursday 22nd.
All students will have a chance to visit with their class and purchase or order books.
Your child will have the opportunity to explore a huge range of affordable books featuring characters and subjects’ kids love and want to read about. From newly released books and bestsellers to award-winning titles and perennial favourites. This is also a great way for you to learn about and discuss your child’s interests and every book sold benefits our school, adding resources to our library and classrooms.
How to purchase books:
Prep - Grade 6 children will be given a wishlist when they enter the Book Fair on Thursday. If they have not brought money with them, they can take home their wishlist and return it with the money the next day by 9am. * We will collate orders and deliver them to classrooms by end of day (if they are in stock).
Parents may also use the wishlist to purchase online if they prefer. If purchasing online, just write the receipt number on the wishlist and return it to school with students. Orders will be delivered to classrooms (if the books are in stock) or they will be ordered through Scholastic and delivered when they arrive.
*Kinder students will not have a wishlist, they will need to purchase their books on Thursday 22nd.
Premier’s Reading Challenge 2024
We’re more than halfway through the 2024 Premier’s Reading Challenge! The challenge ends on Friday 6th September, so as you meet your own personal reading goals, return the reading logs to your class teacher.
Keep up the good work everyone, and if you haven’t quite met your reading goals yet, keep reading.

Chaplain’s Chat
Like many of you, I have been enjoying watching the Olympics & cheering on the Australians.
There are many things our children can learn from the Olympics, including the important life lesson that we can't always win - they will not win every competition they enter, score every job they interview for, or win the heart of every crush they have. It’s okay though! Life goes on and we learn from the experience. This lesson was being learned recently by a student as we played UNO Spin & on one day I won all 3 games!!
In the poster below Martha Brook shares 8 things that could be learnt from the Tokyo 2021 Olympics. For more information about the particular events in those Olympics that inspired these lessons see her blog.
You could try thinking of events in the 2024 Olympics that teach us the same things.
If you think I can help you and your child in some way, or you'd like to chat please leave a message at the Office.
