Principal’s Report
Welcome to Term Two.
We have launched straight into our learning programs and are already making great strides in exploring new learning areas.
Our literacy groups from Prep-Grade 6 are in full swing and the results have been very pleasing. I have heard lots of feedback especially from Prep and Grade 1 parents and staff about how much improvement there has been in such a short period of time.
We are approaching our major mid-year reporting cycle and staff are busy consolidating learning and assessing our students. We will be sharing your child's reports and classroom information with parents at our Parent/Teacher afternoons - Tuesday 25th & Thursday 27th June. We look forward to this opportunity to connect with families, especially those of our older students! Bookings will be open soon but please remember, if you cannot attend on these nights, chat to your child’s teacher in person or via SeeSaw to make an alternative meeting time.
On Wednesday we held our Annual General Meeting (AGM) for our Montello Primary School Association. Due to work commitments, Melissa Murrell will be stepping down as the chairperson and I would like to thank Melissa for her contribution to this role and welcome Kelly Jones as the 2024 chairperson.
This week we also held our Cross Country and I would like to thank Mr.Speglic for organising this event. We were back on the track that follows the perimeter of our school. In the Term 1 holidays this track was resealed and the safety improved not just for Montello students but for the Montello community to be used outside of school hours. It was an excellent day and it was great to see students cheering each other on to try their best. Congratulations MYRTLE for winning the 2024 Cross Country event. Here are the results:
1st – Myrtle = 492
2nd – Wattle = 478
3rd – Waratah = 462
Now that the weather conditions have started to get wetter and colder we have started asking students to remove their shoes before entering our buildings. This is to stop our carpeted areas being completely covered in ‘red mud’ and I appreciate your support with this. It makes a massive difference to the workload of our cleaning staff and makes for a more pleasant learning environment for our students.

Class Snapshot
3/4 Kangaroos
In Grade 3/4 Kangaroos we had a great start to our year. We really enjoyed building Mr Potato Heads and lego construction together.
We have been working hard to develop our touch typing skills.
We have worked together to complete some really challenging jigsaws.
In HASS we have investigated different biomes. A biome is an environment that has specific animals, vegetation and climate. We created the animals and plants with clay.
For our end of term assessment we each used a diorama to create a biome of our choice.
The learning intention for our diorama was to show our understanding of the elements that make up a specific biome.
The success criteria for our biome was:
- Identify 3 animals found in your biome of choice
- Identify 2 plants that are found in your biome
- Create a background that shows the climate of your biome
Extension:
- Create a food chain in your biome.
This term we are learning about the First Nations People.
We have been reading dream time stories, investigating symbols and cave art.
We are looking forward to creating a slide show with a friend to share our knowledge and understanding of the First Nations People later in the term.
We have been taking turns reading to the class.
We really enjoy learning together in grade 3/4Kangaroos.

Chaplaincy Week
Chaplaincy Week is an annual event organised by our chaplaincy provider, SU Australia, to raise awareness of the value of school chaplains. It is a great opportunity for our school to celebrate & be thankful that we have a school chaplain. This year's Chaplaincy Week is next week from 19th-26th May.
As part of Chaplaincy Week I will be again walking & swimming in the Coast to Coast Challenge raising funds to support children in need, whether that need is physical, social, emotional, or spiritual. You can find out more about this & maybe sponsor me via the link below.
Tasmanian Chaplaincy Week Art Competition
Lots of students completed entries for the Tasmanian Chaplaincy Week Art Competition. The theme was "What I really want is..." Here are some of the entries.
Googly Fun
During the last 2 weeks Presli & I have enjoyed giving faces to everyday objects using googly eyes.
We are going to use the photos to make a book.
If you think I can help you and your child in some way or you'd like to chat please leave a message at the school office.
